ImageVenerable Hiek Sopheap, Executive Director of The Association of Buddhists for the Environment, was invited to join the Faith and Forestry Gathering. There were various religious such as Druze, Christian, Shinto, Buddhism, Judaism, Hindu from 12 difference countries and from others organizations including ARC, CI, GEF Small Grants Programme, UNDP, IUCN, and WWF, in order to introduce the main issue of their position on forest management and environment, which based in Visby, Island of Gotland, Sweden.

ImageABE has supported the pagodas in its target areas in the planning of the activities, and in providing technical assistance to conduct the environmental activities for both in pagodas and the communities. ABE knows from its experience and lesson learnt from previous project that pagodas are important meeting and learning places for villagers living around.

Cambodian Monks Join Efforts to Preserve the Cardamoms

Deep in the heart of Cambodia’s Central Cardamom Mountains, monks and conservationists are joining together to protect the region’s endangered flora and fauna. Local monks in the commune of Russei Chrum have joined with Conservation International (CI) in a project merging Buddhist teachings and environmental education.Read more...

ImageWorld Environment Day (WED) falls each year on 5 June. It is a day when people focus on the environment and it is celebrated in over 100 countries. World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

Environment Film Festival Judged a Success

ImageThe first Cambodia Environment Film Festival, which ended on Wednesday night, has been judged a success by its organizers, Conservation International. The festival, which was held at the French Cultural Centre, received maximum crowds, with the theatre overflowing on all three nights of the event.

Walking match/Dhammyietra in Samrong village, Por commune, Kampong Leang district of Kampong Chhnang

ImageOn the 16th May 2007, the Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) has organised Dhammyietra /walking matches in Samrong village. The walking match was begun from Kiri Phakdey pagoda to Samrong village, which led by Venerable Van Sakhim, who is one of the influential monk in the community.
